The biggest problem with Target is that their product mix and selection are meh at best. Their grocery section lacks specialty items like Trader Joe’s. Their clothes are overpriced for the quality - and I’ve even seen the same brands deliver lower-quality versions to Target compared to Kohl’s. Their housewares feel disposable, and Amazon easily beats them there. So what does that leave? Pharmacy and personal care - a space where they face fierce competition from Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, and even online retailers. Without a clear differentiator, Target has become a retailer with no category where it truly wins. Even worse - just about everybody beats them on price! That's not sustainable.
