It’s designed to be flexible and easy to use: you can merge your own data, define custom colormaps for parties or candidates, and generate maps (including for historical elections) in under 10 lines of code.
Under the hood, I edited a US Census Bureau Shapefile in ArcGIS, applied transformations, computed centroids for labeling, and added some extra features for styling and customization.
