1 replytl;dr: the author wants Apple to make them again because only Apple knows how to make things look good

No, that's not it at all. I think you're biased. Esthetics is certainly a big factor, but mostly because we can't hang things off walls and need to have the APs in sight.

1 replyUnsure if they’ll check here, but my Asus BE30000 setup with Ethernet backhaul, steering unchecked, and cloud-admin not configured is meeting the all described purposes for WiFi 6/7 out of the box without custom software.

1 replyThose don't look bad at all. Many thanks, I'll add them to my prospects list.

Glad to be of help. They’ll invite you to cloud setup but I simply declined and got on with things. Also, a note on the first 3d print wall bracket I used - https://ebay.us/m/y5yGvP - it doesn’t use a thick-enough / angle-braced-enough material to prevent drooping a few degrees at the outer edge under the AP’s weight, so if you print a bracket of some sort to wall mount I recommend better bracing. The front surface takes a wallpaper sheet nicely and you can dim or disable the status LEDs if desired.
