Verizon Down for Users Across the US
Original: Verizon down for users across the US
Key topics
As Verizon's network crumbled across the US, leaving thousands of users in the dark, a fascinating pattern emerged: in multiple households, one spouse's phone was SOS-only while the other's remained functional, sparking curiosity about the cause. Commenters shared their own experiences, with some speculating that differences in phone models or iOS versions might be to blame, while others reported that a simple reboot resolved the issue. The outage was widespread, affecting users from Oakland to metro Atlanta, with some Verizon stores reportedly aware of the issue, but the company's website remained eerily silent. As users swapped stories and troubleshooting tips, the thread revealed a striking inconsistency in the outage's impact, even within the same family plans.

This is the first time we've had a major outage affect our VZW service, and we've been with them for over 10 years.
I shouldn't be, but I was shocked at how painful it is to lose our connection while out running errands.
I have no doubt people were affected, but I have 390mbps up 100mbps down on my Verizon phone in San Francisco right now. Just checked. They baited me good.
I’m betting it’ll turn out to be an authentication issue: if you were already known to the system before it went down, you stayed connected. If your periodic auth refresh happened afterward, you couldn’t reconnect to the network.
I happened to be in a strip mall with a Verizon store when it went out, so I ducked in to see if there was a problem with my account. The manager was meeting people at the door. “Is your phone showing SOS? They called and told us it was a national outage, and we don’t know when it’ll be back up.”
I also haven't had any Network Extender outages indicating a more 'national' issue outside of a coast?
Frustratingly I wasn't able to log into their online support because I couldn't two factor authenticate mysef because I couldn't receive text messages!
I called customer support and they were like, "our system is down and unable to take calls" and it hung up on me.
we tried the full reset (volume up/down/side button hold) and network reset, which is not helping.
Both my and her phone have same cellular data settings.
tried calling '611' verizon help line which dumps us saying "the system is down" unable to take calls.
it's a big outage for sure.
