I still believe in public housing, and in conscious, expensive investment in housing for younger and disadvantaged communties.
The effect it has on the market, and house values for existing speculative and for profit groups is less concerning for me than the problem of homelessness. Thus, I don't find either counterfactuals or "it will wreck the market" very convincing.
I live in another economy (oz) and I'm a mortgage free home owner. Our housing market is totally fucked. I'm pretty scared for kids and single parents. The stress must be fantastic. The state has used neoliberal market economics to walk off its obligations to provide housing.
