I saw this across some various interest / hobby topics. A social media person documents their trip to China and starts dropping lines about how happy everyone is … then out of the blue they drop in weirdly off topic lines how they didn’t see any signs of mistreatment of Uyghurs (because tourists are likely to just run into these things?)… and then folks on other social media sites start linking to that video when the topic of china comes up. The linking to those stories happened on HN a lot for a while.
The game of "you can't say that" is pretty absurd.
