I built httptap to understand why certain API requests were slow. Existing tools like httpstat only show total duration, not where time is spent. httptap measures each phase (DNS, TCP, TLS, TTFB, Transfer) using httpcore trace hooks, provides TLS details (protocol, cipher, expiry), and exports full JSON metrics.
It’s written in pure Python with minimal dependencies and works on macOS, Linux, and Windows. Useful for API debugging, performance regression tracking, TLS audits, and network diagnostics.
