Big platforms were somewhat open to attract as much users as possible. Now that they have the users all doors are being closed and people is getting trapped inside.
For many people the internet is a messenger app, Youtube or Tiktok for entertainment and news, Netflix for movies, Spotify for music, Amazon or Temu to buy things, and chatGPT to ask questions. Change some platform for another depending on country or age.
Standardization is needed so people can buy things anywhere they want, so users can send messages seamlessly to other users with different providers, etc. We live in the middle-ages of technology, unregulated, proprietary and controlled by a few feudal lords that have more power than the countries they live in. And it sucks.
