Detroit's Gordie Howe Bridge Is Poised to Open as Truck Traffic to Canada Slows

Ive seen the bridge in person. Remarkable to see. I'm sad they didnt end up taking my idea of an air tram that would suspend under the arches but be well above the road. With giant parking lots, city buses, shuttles to all over.

There's a tunnel; there's also sarnia's bluewater bridge. There's also a train tunnel and boat crossing.

This new bridge mostly connects industrial to industrial. The 401 now essentially goes straight to it. Truckers will be saturating that bridge. The tunnel and ambassador will mostly be for workers crossing the border.

The bridge should be built no doubt. But indeed. Absolutely no movement on a tariff deal. That's now 3 presidents who directly harmed Canadian trade, we are competitors with the usa and not partners anymore. Windsor though has 11.2% unemployment, the worst in the country; windsor is literally going through an economic depression. Bad time for a bridge that lets you bypass windsor.

CUSMA negotiations should have already started with deadline on July 1st 2026, but everything protected is what Trump is actively targetting. It's looking like CUSMA will fall for Canada.

The problem is ideology. The Canadian government keeps harming their own negotiations. Setback after setback.
