You typically have loads of organisms, bacteria in such water. You only worry about ones we know are dangerous, and we just ignore the rest (to a point). I've never heard of a well without some bacteria in it.
And of course, as it's just well water the entire system inside the house has existed for decades sometimes, all without bleach or what not.
