They were given a society of dreams and desires but failed to be taught to control themselves or to be responsible. So yes elders do deserve the blame, it's their fault for giving too much and teaching too little. A world full of wonders and amazements and temptations and a generation that has zero self-control. But as far as the society that doesn't allow them the means to support themselves, that is a complete and utter garbage argument in every way shape and form.
Let's take some time to understand the context.
Wow ideal societies, dreams, people walking with 6$ foofoo drinks where the average monthly salary is 400$ and the inequality and corruption far surpasses the average. When I mean gerontocracies I touch on the west but also on the diverse emergent countries who's politicans and entrentched castes are also very old compared to the median age of their populations.
And even in the West, idk what you mean but you know that consummer electronics has nothing to do with the fact that in most European countries post-2008 there has not been any meaningful wage growth while housing and other necessaities have raised in price. In the US same thing, when it comes to prices vs wage growth and inflation, only with the supplement of having also debt for university. I recommend you search youth unemployment rates by year and country in the OECD.
Stop being an entitled asshole and try to look from the point of view of those more younger.
The kids know about RealPage and how landlords are colluding against them. They aren't stupid.
I'm old enough to have missed the worst of this – the generation after me appear to be completely fucked in terms of what they can practically afford, and no amount of "the youth are just irresponsible!!!!" stupidity is going to to change that.
let's take the thought experiment further: $6 latte and $20 lunch, every single day (unrealistic, but let's just play it out) would be $9490 / year.
The median price of a home is now about $410,000. The median down payment is 18%, so that means it would take nearly EIGHT YEARS of foregoing all "comfort" expenses you've identified, e.g. lattes, to save for just the down payment
let's rewind the clock a little? I don't know when you were a young adult, but let's just say 1985. The median home price was $75,000. Using an inflation calculator to scale the latte is a bit weird, since home prices are included in that number, but let's just use the ratio of median incomes.
The median income in 1985 was about $18000. now, it's $40,000. so the same "comfort" expenses in 1985, as a percent of income, would have been $11.7/day or $4270 / year. It would only take just over THREE years, forgoing the daily latte, to save for a down payment.
so please, spare the lectures.
Can’t blame them with how much the current caregivers seem to be looting the nursery for their personal gain.
Anyway, I wouldn’t worry too much. The big thing that seems to enable the success of these revolts (vs say the Arab spring) is that the military is also angry and will ally with the youth temporarily to seize power.
That's been the pattern for a long time and as a result the politicians are very careful around pensioners and absolutely happy to do so at the expense off people aged 18-30.
I don't blame them for been angry in the slightest (I'm a Xenial at 45) - they are witnesses to the greatest transfer of wealth in history towards both billionaires and older people while been told that there is no "magical money tree" and that state pension ages are going to keep rising, housing is going to keep rising, they'll be paying more for university than they already do etc etc.
All of this against the backdrop of a world that has a rapidly changing climate.
Yeah I don't blame them for been angry one bit - as a cohort they are getting even more wrecked by a system they didn't create/vote for than millenials did.
