let's rewind the clock a little? I don't know when you were a young adult, but let's just say 1985. The median home price was $75,000. Using an inflation calculator to scale the latte is a bit weird, since home prices are included in that number, but let's just use the ratio of median incomes.

The median income in 1985 was about $18000. now, it's $40,000. so the same "comfort" expenses in 1985, as a percent of income, would have been $11.7/day or $4270 / year. It would only take just over THREE years, forgoing the daily latte, to save for a down payment.
