The problem is those with moderate beliefs watch the animosity and just decide to stay out of it. So all the visible speech ends up being from extremists. And that then radicalizes others to do the same. It feels like a spiral towards collapse. I’ve also read though that a lot of the worst speech is from bots orchestrated by Russia and China to increase the divide in the US and Europe.
